I grew up sheltered from the realities of racial prejudice having two well-do-to professional parents.I went to private schools, traveled and was just as guilty of looking down on parts of the family trapped in poverty as many racists were. There seemed to be so much opportunity, after all my father was not only a Vietnam Vet, he had a degree in engineering and went on to become an attorney. My mother, his second wife raised in abject poverty became a teacher, then went on to get several more degrees. Not that my childhood was bed of roses, mind you, both were functional but severely mental ill. (another story for another day).
It wasn’t until I was mid-teens, when I was snatched off the street in broad day light& assaulted that I realized how Black I was. Many people, including a police vehicle observed the kidnapping and did nothing. In fact, when I finally escaped, I was arrested for “indecent exposure”, throw in a local police jail cage. The officers both black & white, reveled in degrading me assuming I had been a prostitute that got ripped off and calling me names, “Effie”.
That was until Father Dearest showed up. Like night and day, I whisked into the room where they take victim statements, profusely apologized to, taken to the hospital, etc.. One of the assailants was picked up immediately and I was sent home to my suburb to await trial.
The details trial’s outcome aren’t germane now. The point is the US is still country with 2 sets of “justice” based on the color of your skin. Of course money and status help, but as in the example above race is the domineering factor.
Trayvon Martin’s murder has forced this issue into the spotlight. He did nothing wrong, yet he was gunned down because George Zimmerman in his programmed racist mind believed based on Martin’s skin color he was likely up to no good. The police on the scene tried to let Zimmerman go on the sidewalk, because in their racists mind believed the same thing.
The police and Norton Bonaparte, Sanford city manager tried to claim the “Stand Your Ground” law prevented them from arresting Zimmerman, which is a total fabrication. Stand Your Ground doesn’t prevent arrests, it allows judges to dismiss charges pre-trial, it does not prohibit arrests. Marissa Alexander, a Black mother who only fired a warning shot into the ceiling of her own home, injuring no one while being threatened by her previously convicted abusive ex-husband was arrested immediately. She has since been convicted as well, with the prosecutions main argument being she could have fled!
See how that works? Two undeniable standards of enforcing the same law.
And these are just some of the more horrific examples of racist application of the law. Black life and liberty are not on par with other races. Ebony Gaines, mother of 8 & an Afghan War veteran was killed by her fiance and her family was not even afforded a trial.
Black victims of rape, assault, theft or lesser but still devastating crimes are often not even taken seriously. There are stories I could tell, names I could name, but just like you usually tune walls of texts out. If any1 is interested please leave a comment below.
I hope you’ll take a moment to sign and pass along these petitions.

I know, it sounds pretty radical and even crazy, but at least look at my case before you dismiss me as a liberal lunatic.
The Definition of TREASON: 1: the betrayal of a trust : treachery. 2: the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance
The Republicans in Congress, by making a pledge to Grover Norquist to not raise taxes on the rich that breaks their oath of office that binds them to serve the American people and the Constitution of the United States, committed definition 1. (In addition, by getting the Republicans to make that pledge, Norquist’s actions meet definition 2.)
By doing everything in their power to make President Barack Obama “a one-term president” and systematically doing everything they could to impede the economic recovery of this country to accomplish that goal, they committed definition 2.

“I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. […] I thought he was a little bit younger than I was, and I did not know if he was armed or not.”
Yeah, that happened. That was George Zimmerman’s non-pology to Trayvon Martin’s parents, as if they had lost their son in a car accident, as if it would have been fine to shoot a person “a little bit younger” than Zimmerman was, and as if you can just assume that every Black person walking back home from a store with candy and ice tea in their hands could be armed and just looking for an opportunity to attack you. Oh, wait – Zimmerman was the one pursuing Martin in his SUV, despite being explicitly told by the police to not to… “Disingenuous and insulting” were really kind words to choose for Trayvon Martin’s parents’ lawyer…

Zimmerman gets $150K Bail, No Skittles or Ice-Tea Until Trial
After George Zimmerman took the stand during his bond hearing and told Trayvon Martin’s parents that he was sorry for the loss of their son, a Florida judge Friday set Zimmerman’s bond at $150,000.
The judge set a number of conditions, including GPS monitoring. The judge said Zimmerman wouldn’t have the opportunity to be released Friday, because his attorney and state authorities needed to hammer out the monitoring and other logistics.
Friday’s bond hearing also included testimony from one of the state’s main investigators in the case, with Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara challenging the state’s assertions. Under questioning, the investigator said the state didn’t have evidence to contradict Zimmerman’s account that Martin started the fight that led to the shooting, but he did say evidence did call into question other parts of Zimmerman’s account.
Zimmerman, 28, was charged on April 11 with second-degree murder in the February death of 17-year-old…

ALEC basically is corporate sponsored funding of our public policy= corporations being allowed to spend so much money, your vote doesn’t even count and your issues don’t get to Congress if it isn’t in corporate interest.
That’s only a lil bit of exaggeration. They are not “thee_stupid” we are! It is a “back door” operation where companies, even competing companies donate under the umbrella called the ALEC task force. First thing that needs to be noted is that we just had another police shooting of an unarmed man in Austin, Texas on Thursday night.. This happened after the report was compiled, so add another name to this grisly toll..
Second, folks have got to understand this is not coincident, it’s quite deliberate. Police have moved from a point of trying to de-escalate or prevention to a shoot first ask questions later policy..
The list below are just noting the deaths at hands of the police, its not highlighting the enormous amounts of brutality and outright disrespect many in the Black community have to endure on a daily basis..The report below is to say the least disturbing and underscores a low wage war going on in our communities…
Twenty-eight Black People (27 Men and 1 Female) Killed by Police Officials, Security
Guards, and Self-Appointed “Keepers of the Peace” between…
